Background... and our "Why"
Brief Overview
Jackie is originally from Ireland and has worked with all ages of students in the field of education. She qualified to start up a pre-school; and has worked in pre-school, elementary school, high school, and tutoring college students. Jackie is a qualified teacher, and has worked for many years in a high school which specializes in teaching students who learn differently, and she recently became a certified Executive Functioning Coach.
Education
and Career
Jackie completed two years in Trinity College, Dublin (Ireland) before coming to Villanova University to finish her degree, graduating Magma Cum Laude. There, she played Div. 1 field hockey, and was an Academic All-American.

Post college, Jackie worked as a private investigator and was promoted to Director of the Philadelphia and New Jersey offices of RMG Investigations.

However, she always loved to teach and returned to college, attending Immaculata University to earn her post-grad teaching certification. She then worked in Reeceville Elementary as a third grade teacher in the Coatesville Area School District. Jackie won the Citadel Heart of Learning Teacher of the Year award. She also started up an initiative in which students created and maintained a garden in their school grounds, and donated their produce to those in need.

For the last 10+ years, Jackie has worked in Delaware Valley Friends School, Paoli, where she was Head of the English Department and created the curriculum for 10th and 12th Grade students. Jackie is trained in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading and spelling - a multi-sensory, structured approach to teaching literacy for students with dyslexia or learning differences. Jackie is a proponent of mindfulness techniques and their benefits in education, and has presented on this topic at the annual NAIS conference. Most recently, Jackie earned a certification as an Executive Functioning Coach from Beacon College.
Why Executive Coaching?
Jackie has seen first hand just how important executive functioning is for a student. It forms the foundation for students' ability to manage their schoolwork, handle challenges, and set themselves up for success both in and out of the classroom. "So often I have seen students who begin to think of themselves as being less capable than their peers, and this can throw them into a cycle of a self-defeating mindset. Traditional classrooms often perceive the students to be lazy, or not caring about their academics, when in reality, they may be extremely capable but cannot produce work within the parameters perscribed for them. What I have seen first hand, on so many occasions, is that when a student begins to feel confident in themselves and their abilities, they will bloom into the learner that they inherently are."
Executive Functioning skills are seldom taught explicitly, and when these skills are underdeveloped, students might struggle with completing assignments, staying organized, or staying on task, which can affect their grades and overall academic success. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing these students utilizing strategies and skills that allow them to shine.
Why this model for Tutoring?
We are so excited to offer this model of tutoring, which really has not been available before. Frequent check-ins and touch points during the week will provide students with the consistency needed to learn and implement strategies that work, and which we hope can help many students get the help they need to be successful and feel capable of their own abilities.
In addition, we hope that this model of service will help support families and their relationships, as these can often become frayed in the process, which magnifies the downward spiral.
Our tutoring comes from a place of genuine and heartfelt concern, and a strong desire for each student to grow in confidence and be able to flourish as their best selves.
